The drive was dug out first. A membrane went down across the whole area, the sand was brought in ready to spread, and warning tape marked the line of the electric cable running underneath.
The paving is grey block laid in herringbone, framed by a charcoal double border that follows every edge: from the pavement up to the house, round the lawn, and along the fence to the gate. A diamond in the same charcoal blocks sits in the middle of the run.
A channel drain crosses the drive by the gate. At the front door the paving is cut around a recessed door mat, with slate chippings in the bed beside it.
